First Grade Units, Lessons and Activities

Bay Area Discovery Museum
During my student teaching I taught in a socioeconomically and culturally diverse elementary school in San Francisco, CA. While there I developed and implemented a variety of lessons spanning across all content areas. They are differentiated for students with varying abilities, those with learning differences and English Language Learners. Many of the lessons integrated mathematics, language arts, social studies and art.  Below you will find links to some of the units and lessons I created, planned and implemented while teaching first grade. Enjoy!

Collages Inspired by Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar

After reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle students discussed the character and plot of the story. We talked about what they noticed about the caterpillar and how it changes throughout the story. The students then created their own character, gave it a name, imagined what the character would look like and created a collage in the style of Eric Carle's artwork.
